Care Instructions

To ensure the longevity and beauty of your epoxy and timber charcuterie board, follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning After Use

• Wipe with a Damp Cloth: After each use, clean your charcuterie board (functional art piece) by wiping it down with a damp cloth to remove crumbs, food particles, and stains. Avoid soaking the board in water as prolonged exposure to moisture can damage both the wood and epoxy.

• Mild Soap (Optional): If needed, use a mild dish soap and warm water to gently clean the board. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they can damage the finish.

2. Drying

• Air Dry Immediately: After cleaning, dry your board promptly with a clean towel and let it air dry completely before storing. Never put your board in the dishwasher or submerge it in water.

3. Regular Oil Treatment for Timber

• Use Food-Grade Mineral Oil or Beeswax: To maintain the timber, regularly oil the wood portion of the board with food-grade mineral oil or beeswax. This helps prevent cracking, drying, and staining.

Available products examples:

  • Walrus Oil, Wood wax for cutting boards

  • Gilly’s food safe wax

  • Bonnie Timber Boards, Wood Butter

• Frequency: Apply the oil every 1-2 months or when the wood looks dry or starts to fade in colour. Simply rub a small amount of oil onto the wood surface with a clean cloth, let it soak in for 10-15 minutes, and then wipe away any excess.

4. Avoid Direct Heat and Sunlight

• Protect from Heat: Do not place hot pots, pans, or dishes directly on the board, as this can warp the wood and damage the epoxy.

• Keep Out of Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the timber to dry out and the epoxy to discolour. Store your board in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

5. Avoid Harsh Impacts

• Be Gentle with the Epoxy: While epoxy is durable, avoid dropping heavy objects on the board, as this could cause chips or cracks in the epoxy surface.

• Use as Intended: Charcuterie boards are designed for food preparation and display, not for cutting directly on. Use a cutting board or knife mat to prevent damage to both the epoxy and the timber.

6. Storing Your Board

• Store Upright: When not in use, store your charcuterie board in an upright position to ensure airflow and prevent warping. You can also hang it on a wall as an art piece if desired.

7. Periodic Maintenance

• Inspect for Wear: Over time, inspect your board for any cracks or chips in the timber or epoxy. If damage occurs, contact a professional for repairs.

By following these simple care instructions, your epoxy and timber charcuterie board will remain a stunning and functional piece for years to come!
